Behind the Silence

Behind the silence we have been hard at work figuring out how to save the building. In order to save the building, it has to be useful to us. In order to be useful to us, it needs to check many boxes to have the State of Maine, Town of Hollis, and the Saco River Corridor Commission approve.

In the early summer we jumped the first hurdle of getting approval from the Saco River Corridor Commission for spot zoning, allowing Lee’s business, Hoagland Restoration, to reside in the building. We are now working on septic/well issues and a site plan, a behemoth of a task.

All in all things are moving forward, but at a snail’s pace. If I’m being honest, I haven’t written in a while because the process has felt a bit discouraging. Everything takes longer than we think it will and takes extra steps and consideration due to the building’s location within the Saco River Corridor and it’s unique characteristics. Isn’t it the way, that the qualities that make something or someone amazing can also be frustrating? Like the child who is great at debate but then wins arguments about not needing to put on socks on a cold day.

Thank you for hanging in there with us as we slog through this phase of the journey.
